Japan has ambitious plans for sustainability and environmental/climate protection at the Olympic Games. The World Economic Forum has released a sustainability concept for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, which simultaneously focuses on the environment and people.

1. The Japanese team will wear sports clothing made from already recycled garments.
2. The winner's podium is made from recycled plastic from the ocean.
3. Medals are crafted from recycled electronic devices, including 6.2 million used smartphones.
4. The Olympic torch is made from recycled metal parts from Fukushima. Additionally, recycled aluminum is reused to provide shelter to earthquake survivors.
5. The athletes' village is constructed from reusable building wood. After the Olympic Games, the wood will be disassembled and reused.
6. Organizers also aim to involve residents: they are encouraged to plant building walls.
