Get to school safely with the BiciBus

3rd Meeting of the “AG Bildung” of Sports for Future

MÜHLEN. Teachers and experts met for the third time on Tuesday, 14 May 2024, in the course of the “AG Education”, initiated by the Mühlener climate protection initiative “Sports for Future”. A total of 14 participants took part in the exchange, including regional educational institutions such as the Gymnasium Lohne, the Georg-Kerschensteiner-Schule Holdorf, the Liebfrauenschule Vechta and the Gymnasium Antonianum Vechta.

The focus was once again on the exchange: many schools face similar challenges when it comes to integrating sustainability measures into everyday school life. The Education Working Group offers a platform to exchange ideas with “like-minded people” and to search for solutions together.

The BiciBus is to replace the parent taxis

Simone and Klaus Markl gave an exciting impulse. They presented their BiciBusinitiative, which allows children to travel safely to school together as a large “bicycle bus” without the parents’ taxi. This not only protects the climate, but also promotes the motor and coordination skills of the children.

In addition, Antonia Böckmann, Project and Communications Manager at Sports for Future, presented the concept for the implementation of a project day on the theme “Together for Climate Protection – Sustainability and Sport”, which she developed together with Peter Kenkel GmbH from Cappeln. The project day uses "Lü – The interactive sports hall", which uses projectors, sensors and loudspeakers to project interactive games onto a sports hall wall. These games combine sport, technology and environmental education by integrating exercise, teamwork and environmental themes. This innovative project day promotes the physical and mental fitness of the students as well as the knowledge of sustainability issues and can be carried out with all class levels, but also with sports teams or clubs.

Next meeting: 13 August 2024

The focus was also on the organisation of project days on sustainability. For example, Janina Jaspers, representative of Eine Welt Netz NRW, presented the project "Eine Welt schafft Meister*innen", which highlights the importance of sport for global justice and sustainability and actively involves students.

The next meeting of the Education Working Group will take place on 13 August at 6. 15 p. m.
