International coastal cleanup awareness month

Many water sports enthusiasts are committed to clean seas and rivers because they are confronted with water pollution almost daily while engaging in their sports.

For example, we introduced Hannah Mills some time ago, an Olympic gold and silver medalist, sailor, sustainability ambassador for the IOC, and founder of The Big Plastic Pledge initiative.

With these thoughts in mind, we observe the International Coastal Cleanup Awareness Month in September, initiated over 30 years ago as a single day by the U.S. environmental organization Ocean Conservancy.

“International Coastal Cleanup Month (formerly International Coastal Cleanup Day) is one of the world’s largest annual preservation and protection events and volunteer efforts for our ocean, waves, and beaches. [...]

It is a global movement that encompasses 6 million volunteers in 90 countries and across the United States.”
