With the "Climate Action Matchday," the German Football Association (DFB) has intensified its commitment to climate protection in sports. This project was carried out in collaboration with amateur and professional clubs during the first round of the DFB Women's and Men's Cup, on the third and fourth matchdays of the FLYERALARM Women's Bundesliga, as well as on the fifth and sixth matchdays of the 3rd Liga.
A significant aspect of the action matchday was a large fundraising campaign: All participating clubs had the option to voluntarily donate 100 euros for each goal they scored. Thanks to many high-scoring games, a total of 23,100 euros was collected, which the DFB doubled to 46,200 euros.
The entire donation amount will now be allocated 1:1 to the Green School Project by Sports For Future and the Zenaga Foundation in Nigeria and Senegal. The donation will support schools in activities such as planting fruit trees, acquiring sports equipment, and addressing environmental education and solar energy.
Many thanks to the DFB and all 142 participating teams. The action matchday has demonstrated how we can collectively take responsibility in sports and create awareness!
