At the sidelines of the "Sustainability" dialogue forum of the German Football Association (DFB) on Monday (March 19, 2023) in Frankfurt, we, represented by our chairman Stefan Wagner, officially handed over the petition "Stop this FIFA," launched in November 2022 during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, to the DFB.
Symbolically, we presented a poster indicating the number of signatures for the petition to DFB Vice President Prof. Dr. Silke Sinning and Head of Social Responsibility Stefanie Schulte. A total of 101,555 people had signed it, advocating, together with Sports for Future, for open, fair, and climate-friendly FIFA World Cups.
"This significant participation is a clear statement for fair and sustainable major sports events. Together, we can initiate changes in sports. We need many formats like this dialogue forum, where we can exchange and agree on possible paths," said Stefan Wagner.
With EURO 2024, the third-largest sports event in the world will take place in Germany next year. The DFB, politics, organizers, and stakeholders of the European Championship emphasized at the dialogue forum that they were aware of their responsibility and that the "SDGs," the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, were the basis for their actions.
