INTERVIEW WITH STEFAN WAGNER ON STADIONWELT

An interesting interview with our 1st Chairman, Stefan Wagner, on the topic of sustainability in professional sports, approaches, and the "Taskforce Zukunft Profifußball" of the German Football League (DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga) has been published today by our media partner, Stadionwelt.

Stadionwelt: How do you define sustainability in the context of professional sports?

Wagner: For me, it is the assurance of one's own future viability in harmony with societal interests. In particular, commercial sports have distanced themselves from society in many areas in recent years. Thus, the inclusion of socially relevant topics serves the role of the sport in society and, consequently, its own economic opportunities.

Stadionwelt: Which areas do you define in this context?

Wagner: Fundamentally, the triad of "Economy, Ecology, and Social" and thus the entire core business come into focus. Specifically, for example, the manner of marketing, sustainable sports developments that focus on people, resource-efficient merchandising and catering, CO2 reduction in the operation of stadiums and arenas, spectator management, and much more. Unfortunately, sustainability is still too often reduced to topics of voluntary commitment, somewhat exaggeratedly, such as donating to an institution or painting a school in bright colors.

Stadionwelt: Do you believe that sustainability and climate protection have an adequate priority on the agenda of clubs and stadium operators?
