From the 02nd to the 06th of April 2024, the Vechta District will host the Environment Week. Whether clubs, schools, kindergartens or neighborhoods – all residents are called on to carry out creative actions on these days for more environmental and nature protection.
As part of the Environment Week on Thursday, 04 April, we implemented a project day on the topic #strongertogehr – Sustainability and Sport at the St. Johannes Elementary School in Steinfeld. We were supported by Peter Kenkel GmbH and the interactive game system Lü, which was built in the small Steinfelder gymnasium. Lü transforms every room into an active and immersive learning environment where children, instead of playing a video game in front of a screen, become physically active themselves to be able to play.
Together with Sports for Future and Lü, the second-year students at Steinfeld Elementary School learned about the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Thursday morning. Antonia Bockmann, project and communications manager at Sports for Future, welcomed each of the four classes and talked to them about environmental protection and sustainability: What can we do to protect the environment? What do we need to feel good on earth? It quickly became clear that community and cohesion are necessary to achieve these goals – as are environmental and climate protection and meeting the 17 SDGs.
That’s why teamwork was a big focus at the project day: Through the sports games of Lü, the children had to work together in small groups in order to achieve different goals, which can then be transferred back to the SDGs. Together, the children broke through a wall, grew trees and helped a monster with dental hygiene. With the mobile Lü-Beamer from Peter Kenkel GmbH, the playing surface was beamed onto the gym wall, and the children could influence the game by dropping the playing surface.
At the end of the project day, all the children were happy, satisfied and energized. In addition, it became clear that goals can not only be achieved better together, it is also more fun!
