Collaboration: "Ocean conservancy" and Miami Super Bowl host committee

The "Ocean to Everglades" (O2E) initiative puts the environment at the center of the major sports event.

In February 2019, "Ocean Conservancy" became the Ocean Partner of the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee, marking the first Ocean Partner in Super Bowl history. Together with the host committee "Everglades Foundation" and "NFL Green," "Ocean Conservancy" established the "Ocean to Everglades" (O2E) initiative to create a platform for ecological events, education, and sustainability efforts in South Florida.

As an Ocean Partner, "Ocean Conservancy" aims to use the major event to draw attention to the state of Florida's coasts. With a focus on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable fishing, the #SuperCleanupChallenge was launched during the NFL season 2019. The goal is to remove 54 tons of ocean plastic and other debris from Florida's coasts. The entire campaign began with the start of the partnership in February 2019.

Just like football, the protection of the oceans is a team sport and requires the efforts of each individual to achieve the common goal. Many have already joined #TeamOcean during the season, and hopefully, more will join after the Super Bowl.

The partnership comes at a critical time for Miami and Florida. The 8,436 miles of Florida's coastline along the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, the unique marine life, and coastal communities are facing increased stress. From harmful algae blooms to plastic pollution, ocean acidification, and sea-level rise – the ocean and all those living in it need support. Together with the host committee "NFL Green," "Everglades Foundation," and many other groups and residents working for conservation in Florida, collective influence can be exerted.
