RELEASE OF 7,753 TONS OF CO2 PER BUNDESLIGA FOOTBALL MATCH

A total of 7,753 tons of CO2 are released per Bundesliga football matchday. Two-thirds of the emissions come from mobility, and one-third comes from consumption, such as drinks, stadium sausages, and generated waste. This data comes from a brief study conducted in 2018 by Patrick Fortyr (Climate Protection Consultancy CO2OL, Bonn) in collaboration with Deutschlandfunk. The majority of fans still travel by car, but there are initiatives for alternative transportation options in many places, such as combined tickets with public transport, shuttle buses, or special trains. A step in the right direction, but still far from sufficient.
