Kick-off in Kenya – Nursery project implemented

Excellent projects in Senegal, Nigeria & DR Congo to be continued

Sinsheim / Mühlen The first fences are in place and the plot has been prepared for the first planting: In April 2024, the Zenaga Foundationand Sports for Future began to implement a nursery project in Kisumu, a town in the northeast of Lake Victoria in Kenya. Specifically, in the Kisumu County Football Association: The football community lacks any resources, be it equipment, balls, transportation to games and sports fields. In addition to the lack of sporting resources, the region faces fundamental challenges such as insufficient access to nutritious food and clean drinking water, lack of sanitation and hygiene products.

In order to support not only the members of the football club, but also the local population in self-help, the “DANA WILFRIDA AYUGI OSODO” tree nursery in Kisumu will be implemented in April 2024. In project phase 1 (until December 2026) 90,000 tree seedlings are to be planted there.

The first steps of the project included the construction of fences and gates to protect the equipment. In addition, the plot was prepared for the first tree plantations. Next steps include hiring and training gardeners as well as planting and sowing the first seedlings and seeds and their care.

On the other hand, a Green School is being initiated in Kisumu in collaboration with the Zenaga Foundation, which also includes 1,000 tree seedlings. In addition, the school is equipped with solar spotlights, mobile solar lamps, sports and garden equipment and wall paintings. A sports tournament and environmental and climate protection education are also in the foreground. The aim is to advance education in Kisumu, create financial opportunities through the management of the nursery and provide vocational guidance. With this, we are now also implementing the “Green Schools” project series, which was awarded the German Award for Sustainability Projects in 2023, in East Africa.

In the spirit of sustainability, we want to implement additional “Green Schools” and other sustainability projects in Senegal and Nigeria and continue the great collaboration with BadmintONEarth in the DR Congo.

We continue our successful collaboration with the Zenaga Foundation and want to expand it further, for this we need your support in the form of donations and sponsorships. The combination of climate protection, education and sport and individual opportunities such as the integration of social aspects make the projects particularly effective. Every private person and company, every athlete, every club or association can support the implementation of the projects with a donation or sponsorship, finance a sub-project or even start a “own” project.
